    Autism Delaware is excited to announce that registration is open for our Jr. Golf program with Coach Butch Holtzclaw, Golf Pro at The Rookery South.

    Who: Youth and young adults ages 7-25 with an autism spectrum disorder.
    Parent/caregiver needs to be present and involved in the small group instruction.

    Where: The Rookery South, on Route 1 in Milton, DE

    Session length: 30 minutes maximum; limited to 6 golfers per session

    Schedule: Mondays 4:30 or 5:15 PM

    The game of golf can be enjoyed across the lifespan, helping youth increase confidence, perseverance and improve judgment as they learn techniques of the game. Instruction will include: putting, chipping, driving, short game, course etiquette and more.

    The program will again be free, thanks to the generosity of Coach Butch Holtzclaw and The Rookery. Equipment for this program will be provided by The Rookery, purchased through a previous grant provided by The Philadelphia Foundation and The Greater Philadelphia PGA.

    Join us for an inspirational weekend filled with new perspectives and ideas. Learn from local and national presenters alongside parents and school professionals of children who are Deaf-Blind, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Blind and Visually Impaired, and who have Autism Spectrum Disorder. Choose from a variety of breakout sessions and visit vendors and exhibitors for information and resources. Outside the Box provides families and educational staff a unique opportunity to learn together. National and local presenters with experiences in a variety of content areas give the participants the knowledge and skills needed to help their child in the areas of behavior, communication, vision, assistive technology as well as other topics.

    Saturday Keynote Speaker:
    Sarah Celestin: Director of Special Education, Red Clay School District:  Sarah joined Red Clay School District in 2015 as the Director of Special Education. Prior to that, she worked with the Delaware Department of Education as an Education Associate in Exceptional Children Resources where she managed the State Personnel Development Grant and related technical assistance projects to support educators serving students with disabilities. Sarah has also worked as a Project Director at the University of Delaware’s Center for Disabilities Studies and as a special educator at Newark Charter School and Colonial School District.
    Sarah received her doctorate, master and bachelor degrees from the University of Delaware, and she currently teaches at the University part-time in the School of Education. Additionally, Sarah has had the opportunity to speak nationally about special education issues through TASH and the Council of Exceptional Children conferences.

    Session Topics:Behavior, Communication, Deaf, Hard of Hearing/Mainstream Success, Blind and Visually Impaired, Autism, Positive Advocacy, Assistive Technology, IEP

    Childcare: Stipends for childcare are available for families of children with Autism through funding from Autism Delaware. A separate application is required for childcare stipends. Visit https://www.delautism.org/scholarships/ for a childcare stipend application.
    Meals & Hotel Accommodations
    Family attendees and children will be provided breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday.

    New location! RAIN OR SHINE!

    Join us at the pavilion at TS Smith & Sons farm in Bridgeville for our annual fall festival at a new location!

    Costumes are encouraged! Lots of fun activities like face painting, a wagon ride to the apple orchard (where you can pick your own apples $1 per pound to take home)! Plus, arts & crafts, pumpkin decorating, and a bubble wrap popping party!!

    And, there's the food! Apple cider, ginger snaps, and water will be provided. Please bring a dish to share!

    There will be no park entrance fee this year, however, there will be a small fee of $5 per family for this event.

    Thank you for your ongoing support and participation in our events. We look forward to seeing you this fall!

    We have reserved the open air hay ride train car as well as a closed train car.

    Candy and non-candy goody bags available for the kids.

    Spots are extremely limited and fill fast so purchase your tickets today.

    Tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be sold at the railroad. Please choose whether you want candy or non-candy good bag at registration.

    Train departs at 6:30 SHARP. Arrive fifteen minutes before departure. Once the train departs the station, it is impossible for late arrivals to join our party.

    COST: $6 per person
    TIP: Bring a blanket to keep your family warm on the open air hay train!
