Summer Day Camp, Superhero style!
Autism Delaware is happy to announce its 2013 Summer Day Camp in partnership with the Children’s Beach House. The camp is available to youth with autism spectrum disorder that will be in grades 3 - 11 in the 2013-2014 school year, up to and including age 17. The camp accommodates 30 children, so it’s important to get your application in early!
DATES: August 19-22, 2013
HOURS: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
LOCATION: The Children’s Beach House, 1800 Bay Avenue, Lewes, Delaware.
Purpose of the camp: The Autism Delaware Day Camp Program is designed to increase self-confidence, improve peer and social interactions, and enjoy a traditional summer camp environment with supportive staff. Our goal is to help each child have a fun and successful summer camp experience through making new friends, exploring new interests, and gaining independence.
This year day camp will have a superheroes theme, which we are very excited about! The camp program is highly structured and filled with new adventures within a repeating schedule. Activities may include kayaking, sailing, swimming, low ropes course, arts and crafts, swimming in the pool, and more! Throughout each activity, emphasis is put on communication, social skills, and building self-esteem. We will use a "Challenge by Choice" approach throughout camp activities, meaning that we will encourage campers to stretch their limits in trying something new, but will never force them into an activity.
Emotional and physical safety is always our priority.
Program staff will include Sussex Consortium staff members, Autism Delaware staff, Children’s Beach House Camp Counselors, and caring volunteers, allowing for a low staff to camper ratio.
Fees: The camp fee is $250. DDDS respite funds can be used for camp, as can respite funding from Delaware Lifespan Respite Care Network.
Application Process: If you would like your child to be considered for participation in the Autism Delaware Day Camp Program, complete the
application. Then, also make sure to have your child’s classroom teacher fill out and submit the
Teacher Form after you sign the permission at the top.
Be sure to attach a copy of your child’s health insurance card(s).
ONLY COMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED.
