Autism Delaware Sponsors 8th Annual Drive for
Autism (1/1/09)
A Letter from Artie Kempner
I know golf season seems a long way
off, but we're gearing up for the 8th edition of the Drive
for Autism. This year's event will be on Thursday, May 28,
2009
and once again will be held at the DuPont Country Club. We
are so thankful for the amazing support we've received, and
know that this year we're all challenged by the tough
economy.
But I wanted to tell you all why this event means
so much to so many, and how this fundraiser is making a
difference in people's lives. Here's a short list of the
reasons to be involved: One in 150 children are being
diagnosed with autism every day. That is an astounding
statistic and no matter the economy, tremendous
challenges faced by people with autism are only growing
with the sheer number of people affected.
-
We are a fully fledged service
provider! Our POW&R (Productive Opportunities
for Work & Recreation) program is now serving 18 adults since
its inception in August of 2007. This is funded mostly
through the Drive for Autism, and we're becoming the
paradigm for other organizations because of the success
of our initiative.
-
Our contributions to national
research have helped fund outstanding projects both in
genetics and in applied behavior.
-
Our website, information and
referral, social events for families, speaker series,
local and national advocacy, services for kids with Asperger's, trainings, newsletter, parent mentoring, and
more have made us an invaluable resource to countless
families.
The Drive for Autism is a phenomenal
event with great celebrity players, and it’s also a ton of
fun!
In 2008, Autism Delaware celebrated
our ten year anniversary - a decade of providing hope, help
and hands-on services to the autism community - with a new
name, a new look, and a new location to accommodate our
phenomenal growth. The Drive for Autism has been the dynamic
force behind our amazing success. With your help we can make
2009 an even bigger and better year for all our loved ones
with autism.
We encourage you to take advantage of
our "Early Bird" specials for signing up, and please don't
hesitate to e-mail or call me with any questions, comments,
or just to say hello.
Warmest Wishes,
Artie Kempner
